During her campaign, Sherry Boston promised a “new day” in DeKalb County, and pledged to restore the public’s trust in an efficient and transparent District Attorney’s office. Though she’s only been in office since January, Boston has already taken bold steps to lead the county out of political infighting and scandals and focused her efforts on vigorous prosecution of felonies in DeKalb’s Superior Court, including murder, drug and sex offenses, child and elder abuse, theft, and corruption. “I intend to protect the most vulnerable victims by prosecuting those who would prey on them,” Boston said.

Sherry BostonFollowing a high-profile commercial sex organization sting by the Dunwoody police Boston’s legal team is currently evaluating how to manage the prosecution of all the parties involved. “This is not a one-sided, or one dimensional issue, as evidenced by the scope of the arrests in this case,” Boston said. “Both supply and demand must be targeted if we are to eradicate this problem, and I want to send a message to the community that this type of crime won’t be tolerated in DeKalb County.”

Prior to winning election as District Attorney Boston served as DeKalb County Solicitor-General, the elected prosecutor overseeing misdemeanor crimes, including code enforcement and business licensing infractions sometimes within the Stone Mountain Community Improvement District.

“As Solicitor-General of DeKalb County, Sherry Boston was a strong ally for the Stone Mountain CID,” said CID President Emory Morsberger. “When I called her with an issue, I knew she would do everything in her power to resolve it, and I know she will bring that same professionalism, determination and leadership to her new role as District Attorney.”

After graduating Villanova University, Boston moved to Atlanta to attend the Emory University School of Law. She worked in private practice and served as a judge in both municipal court and magistrate’s court, before being appointed Solicitor-General in 2011. She says her experience in managing an $8 million budget and over 100 employees gave her a deep appreciation for how the law can work to have a direct, positive impact on the quality of people’s lives.

“I have worked in every part of the judicial system and appreciate how all the parts have to work together efficiently in order to create justice for everyone” Boston said. “I think a DA has to understand that you do not work in a vacuum — the criminal justice system is made up of different parts and you have to understand each role to be effective.”

Boston’s commitment to effective criminal prosecutions will benefit not only families who want to live in DeKalb, but also businesses looking to expand or invest in the county.

“Just as families want to feel safe in their community, businesses need to know that the rules -the laws- will be applied fairly to all parties,” Boston said. “Businesses need to know what to expect before they make an investment in DeKalb, and it’s going to be part of my job to make sure they know that a “new day” is more than just a campaign slogan. It’s a commitment to openness and transparency and consistency in order to ensure fairness and justice for everyone.”
